XbotGo Chameleon

XbotGo's phone-based tracker. Your phone records, so the match lands in your phone's gallery.

Steps with that label aren't confirmed in the maker's help, or depend on your app or firmware version. Check them on your own device, and follow the maker's help if anything differs.

What it is

The Chameleon is XbotGo's phone-based tracking device. Your phone does the recording, and recordings save to your phone's gallery.

Own subscription or cloud? Not needed for Squono. XbotGo includes 20 GB of free cloud storage.

The Chameleon, your phone and the XbotGo app
A tripod tall enough for your format
5v5: 1.3–1.8 m. 7v7 and bigger: 3.5–4 m.
Plenty of free space on your phone

Before match day

Step 1:
Charge everything the night before
Camera, phone and any power bank you use.
Step 2:
Check there's storage space
Clear space on the card, phone or account before match day – after copying off anything you want to keep.
Step 3:
Type the match details into the XbotGo app
Team names, kit colours, opponent and kick-off. Squono's match setup card shows them ready to copy. Entering them in Squono does not configure your camera.
Step 4:
Set "Auto Save Duration" longer than the match
If it's shorter, the recording is split into several files.

On match day

Step 1:
Set the tripod height
5v5: 1.3–1.8 m. 7v7 and bigger: 3.5–4 m.
Step 2:
Make the tripod safe
Spread and weigh down the legs. Keep children and balls away.

After the match: get your file out and upload it

Step 1:
Find the recording in your phone's gallery
Step 2:
Check whether it's one file or several
If Auto Save Duration was shorter than the match, you'll have several files.
Step 3:
Open Upload in Squono
Use a computer or a phone on Wi-Fi. Big match files upload far more reliably on Wi-Fi than on mobile data.

Step 4:
Choose the team, then the match
Pick the fixture the recording belongs to, so the video appears on the right match page.
Step 5:
Choose the full match file
Under "What is it?" choose "Full match (one file)". MP4 or MOV works best. Keep the page open until the upload has finished.
Step 6:
Got more than one file? Upload each as a part
If the match is in several files (for example one per half), add them all to the same match and set "What is it?" to First half, Second half and so on.
Step 7:
Wait for processing
Squono's video provider processes the file. Long matches can take a while. You can leave the page once the upload has finished.
Step 8:
Review, then publish
When the video is ready for review, watch a little of it, check it's the right match, choose who can see it and publish. Nothing is published automatically.

File format

Your phone's own video format
Many phones record HEVC. Squono accepts it.

Before the maker deletes it

The phone copy stays until you delete it
If you use XbotGo Cloud
Over your storage limit, uploads stop and the oldest cloud videos are deleted after a 30-day grace period.

Upload tips

Squono plays matches at up to 1080p
Uploading a 4K file is fine, but viewers will see it at up to 1080p in Squono.
HEVC and H.264 both work
Squono's video provider processes both. You don't need to convert files before uploading.
Very large files
Very large single files haven't all been tested yet. If an upload is refused for size, split the recording (for example by half) and upload each part to the same fixture.

Important

Keep your originals

Copy the untouched original file (and any goal clips you want to keep) to a computer or drive before deleting anything from the camera, the card or the maker's cloud. Squono's processed stream is not a backup of your original file.

Tripod safety

Tall tripods can blow over. Spread the legs fully, weigh them down, keep children and balls away from it, and lower it or don't record if the wind is strong.
